2022’s freshest fashion shade is green (from matcha teas to deeper emeralds) and it just happens to translate fabulously on the makeup front.
Perhaps the most striking eyeshadow shade other than, say, a bright teal, green’s versatility outshines the vivacious oranges or reds – lovely as they are, they’re not as eclectic.
We’ve got so many glorious greens to choose from, from quiet powdery pastels to darkest richest regal velvets.
Bold, muted, rich, neon/Northern Lights or springlike, green’s been riding on the trend forecast radar since last year and it’s year is here.
Five years since “Greenery” was Pantone’s 2017 Colour of the Year, it feels good to see green back in all its spring bud glory.
Symbolic of strength and resilience and the ecology (hello evergreen trees that keep your leaves!), green’s bursting with the just-sprouted optimism of brand new shoots or the pack-a-punch nutrition of microgreens.
A touch of greenery
I remember seeing a completely charred tree in California after the big fires they had in Malibu a while back – dry as a bone, its charcoal trunk and branches were black and sad to see, glinting eerily in the LA sun. But – looking closer, peeping out of all the black “cinder” were some tiny, tiny bright pale green shoots. What a joy! Signs of life.
I never forgot it.
Those dreamy, deep watery sea greens on days the ocean changes colour…green/grey, grey/blue, green/turquoise, deep green/navy blue…or the one-shade dark total green-ness of deep green lagoons.
It’s not long until lie-on-the-grass summers are back along with the bliss of warm evenings and extra-early morning birds, so in the spirit of growth, rebirth and new shoots, here’s to that natural “neutral” (but not really!) THE COLOUR GREEN 🍀
