Hello Spring! We’ve missed you…and next stop: SUMMER!
Make a wreath, dance around a maypole, celebrate with a picnic if the weather holds, or put some morning dew on your face (Irish folklore).
In many ways the most optimistic time of year, heralding more flowers, more colour, more hope, more sun, and closely linked with fertility, May Day is just two days away now (things are looking up!)
“Spring: a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can be”
In Greece, May Day is called Protomagia (proto = first, magia = magic) when families head outside for BBQs and May Day wreaths adorn doors until St John’s Day, 24th June (if they last that long!)

May is also Flower Festival Month in Greece (“Anthestiria” – so, “chrysanthemum = chrysos gold + anthemom/flower)
Wishing you a beautiful May Day on Saturday 1st, full of the magic of the first of May and wonderful, brighter, sunnier days to come for those of us in the Northern Hempishere.
Καλή Πρωτομαγιά!
Happy Spring!
How are you celebrating May Day this weekend? I might have a go at making a wreath (the first one since December) and explore a new walking trail…
Here’s more (BELOW) on how the Greeks celebrate Protomagia (going back to my Greek roots today).
Have a lovely weekend (and on a related happy note, parcels full of clean, green baby and natural beauty products have been arriving thick and fast for the 2021 Mama & Baby Awards on 11th June.
There are still two days left to enter but the last hour to submit entry forms is midnight on Friday 30 April (just before Saturday morning!)
Good luck – it’s going to be a wonderful awards judging by what’s coming in.
Wishing you a happy weekend! x
