NO HYPE. JUST HONESTY (AND AN INCREDIBLY GOOD FACE WASH) – FUSHI

Fushi and The Beauty Shortlist are both celebrating 10 years of beauty and wellbeing this year. What I admire about Fushi is this brand’s low key, no-hype (I have a good nose for hyped products and I hate them) and ongoing honest, earth-friendly commitment to delivering products that are healthy and good to skin.

Fresh and powerfully gentle, like nature herself.

Much-loved for their freshly bottled, cold pressed health oils, herbal supplements and also Ayurvedic-centric skincare, Fushi’s beauty oils are worth a little detour here as they come in £4 10ml TRY ME sizes – and there are lots of single oils to choose from.

Fushi’s TRY ME 10ml size Rosehip Oil £4

Pop a camellia, rosehip or argan mini bottle in your handbag and you’ve got an instant facial oil/dry patch SOS/cuticle oil “on the go”. (Fast forward to December and these would be fab little stocking fillers. Having said that, I’m clinging to summer like a vine on a trellis so maybe let’s not go there?!)

But today’s post is all about Fushi’s BioVedic ENZYME FACE WASH, because…

Fushi’s totally fab BioVedic Enzyme Face Wash £15/150ml  really loving this, and it’s become a new staple

First off, extra points for the amber glass bottles and vegetable ink printed labels across the BioVedic collection (love the pretty, eye-catching branding).

Fushi continuously strives for 100% earth-friendly production, using glass bottles not plastic, so this arrived in a cardboard box wrapped in shredded recycled paper.

I tried the Enzyme Face Wash (£15/150ml and you use this 1-2 x week, not every day) in July and – wow.

What’s it like?

It’s a light, orange coloured exfoliating face wash (subtly, naturally sweet orange scented, with a touch of rose otto, but it’s the orange that mainly comes through for me).

The texture? A liquidy gel with finely-milled bamboo stem powder. And the bamboo bit is important.

Why is this good? Bamboo powder as an exfoliant is environmentally friendly and will not leave microscopic cuts on skin (which ground nut shells can, I’m not a fan of nut shells because they can contain some sharp points). Skin hates overly abrasive exfoliators (and it hates too frequent exfoliation) but Fushi’s face wash hits the sweet spot by working gently and very thoroughly to remove dead cells.

Literally…”voila!” Brighter, baby soft (no hype here either), refreshed looking skin – skin that’s perfectly prepped for your natural self-tanner or tinted SPF foundation.

One of the ingredients that caught my eye is Kalahari Melon Seed, a powerful antioxidant extracted from wild African watermelon which grows in dry, sandy desert conditions and has become somewhat of a skincare celebrity for its omega 6 and 9 content and super-hydrating quality. Unlike sweet red-fleshed watermelons, it’s yellow or green and bitter, but when pressed the seeds contain a gorgeous golden oil.

Fushi chose Ayurvedic herb Manjistha (rubia cordifolia) which is a flower plant in the coffee family I know absolutely *nothing* about. So I had to Google this bit…it’s a blood purifier and Ayurvedic superfood apparently (you can take it internally) and it has a brightening, radiance-boosting effect on skin. (No hype again here – it absolutely does).

Fushi also sells fresh ground organic Manjista:

How to use

Using moistened hands, gently massage face, avoiding eyes, then rinse for immediately brightened skin. Use 1-2 times a week. (You can rinse it off just with your hands, or a warm wash cloth, I use bamboo cloths nowadays, they’re softer, I prefer the feel of them to cotton or muslin).

It’s been a while since I’ve written about just ONE stand-alone product but this is the most perfect exfoliating facial wash I’ve found (again, once or twice a week is sufficient as this is not just a face wash, it’s an exfoliator).

I love everything about Fushi’s BioVedic Enzyme Face Wash, there’s nothing I’d change about the texture, scent or formula so I think we should make it AUGUST’S PRODUCT OF THE MONTH?

If you decide to try this Enzyme Face Wash or already have it, I’d love to hear your thoughts. For me, it’s as close to the perfect exfoliating face wash I’ve come across. You just need a little, once or twice a week, so it’ll be a “perennial” on your bathroom shelf and one I hope you love!

Ethical, earth-friendly, gentle, hardworking, nicely naturally scented, all round lovely…
