Neals Yard’s new Bee Lovely range (and please help save the bees!)

Right, it’s time to get buzzy – and serious.  Neals Yard Remedies have launched their new Bee Lovely range to help highlight the serious plight of the honeybee and encourage people to sign their petition to get neonicotinoids banned.

Neonicotinoids are 7,000 times more toxic than DDT which was banned in Britain in 1984  (in 1972 in the States). They’ve been linked to the dramatic loss of honeybees around the world (and frankly who knows what these poisons are doing to our soil, birds and other animals – and us.) And they’re used in 100 countries on farms and in gardens.  Scary.

British beekeepers have lost up to 80% of their hives in recent years – shockingly, more than in any other European country. In the UK alone, pollination is calculated to be worth about £430m to the national economy. Bad news for bumblebees, alarming news for us.

So what can we do to help?

1)  SIGN THE PETITION here on the NYR Facebook page

2) If you’re on Twitter or Facebook, help spread the word.

3) OUR COMPETITION HAS ENDED AND THE THREE WINNERS WILL BE ENJOYING THEIR HAND CREAMS BY NOW (we announced them on Twitter last week) – THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO ENTERED!

Have a look at the new BEE LOVELY range is here (and we love the fact that their Busy Bee Balm is so gentle it can be used by little bees age 3 and over!)  Plus, 5% of the sale on each Bee Lovely item goes towards helping the bees, too.  Signing the petition takes seconds, and it’s so vital that our bees survive and thrive, so your support is very much appreciated.
