Every spring, Guerlain adds a new Aqua Allegoria…there is Pamplelune, a grapefruity citrus, Herba Fresca, aromatic and green, Mandarine Basilic and Flora Nymphea “petals, honey and orange”. This spring Thierry Wasser has created Aqua Allegoria Lys Soleia. Or “sun lily”, roughly translated. It’s sun-kissed, very feminine and quite different from the rest of the collection.
Lys Soleia starts with a swirl of freshness before notes of tuberose, vanilla and white lily settle in – and they do. It has great staying power for an EDT. Bergamot, palm leaves and tropical fruit add to the intrigue, steering it away from a straightforward tuberose/lily scent and I think that’s why I love it.
In a word? Summer. In two? Summer holiday. It made me think of sand, still warm, just after the sun dips away. Island life (but in a luxury cabana). A table dressed with white lilies, candles flickering. A long, long dinner with no plans tomorrow. Bare arms because there’s not even a hint of a chill. Sandals kicked off under the table, cooling your feet on the grass. Aqua Allegoria Lys Soleia is feminine, full of white flowers with hints of palm leaves and exotic fruit. 25C at midnight in high summer.
In stores from April 15. At Harrods, John Lewis, House of Fraser and Debenhams.
