We’re updating this page all the time so do get in touch if you have any ideas we can add. It’s the most important page on the site.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ESTEE LAUDER
BEST GIVE BACK BRAND
The Beauty Shortlist Awards 17 April 2012
As everyone knows, Estee Lauder have raised quite extraordinary amounts of money through their Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Fundraising and we’ll have a special feature to celebrate one of the beauty industry’s most legendary icons soon.
1. RESOURCES: HELP, SUPPORT, FUNDRAISING and RESEARCH
KILLING CANCER CHARITY www.killingcancer.co.uk (if you haven’t heard of it, read on – it’s groundbreaking)
The brilliant specialists at UCL Hospital in London and a small selection of others in the UK are helping beat (certain) cancers with non-surgical Photodynamic Therapy which is a breeze compared to conventional cancer treatments. Supporters include Sir David Frost, Sir Alex Ferguson, and rock stars Roger Daltrey and Robert Plant. PDT has tremendous potential, it’s groundbreaking, and results have been extraordinary…yet the NHS is very slow in adopting this therapy. (But it’s being used in other countries successfully already). Beauty Shortlist supports Killing Cancer 100%. They do amazing work and have saved patients in the UK and abroad from surgeries that were originally deemed “necessary”, including disfiguring facial surgeries. Please check the list of cancers PDT can be used for, on the website.

4. ESSENTIAL READING
- Anti-cancer: A new way of life, by David Serban-Schrieber. Author David-Servan Schreiber is an academic physician with a wealth of experience in the field of integrative medicine, a lovely man, who battled brain cancer himself but sadly died last week, after surviving a pessimistic diagnosis for 19 years, on 24 July 2011. His book, now his legacy, is a must-read and empowering. A New York Times tribute, here: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/30/world/europe/30servan.html?_r=1
- Cancer: The complete recovery guide, by Jonathan Chamberlain. Really comprehensive book highlighting all the options and treatments out there, an empowering read.
- Foods to Fight Cancer, by Richard Béliveau and Denis Gingras. All about green tea, curcumin, berries, the omegas and other superfoods to boost the immune system.
- No More Bingo Dresses by Rosie O’Hara (How to cope with cancer and other people using NLP) A humorous account of the author’s own journey and how NLP helped her.
5. BEAUTY ON THE INSIDE, FATIGUE FIGHTERS AND ARE YOU TOP OF YOUR TO-DO LIST?
IF YOU ONLY DO 5 THINGS:
- Put yourself FIRST on your to-do list.
- SAY “SAYONARA” TO SUGAR – and mean it. Sugar feeds cancer cells and creates disease. Never mind what it does to our energy levels, blood sugar, teeth, skin, etc. Agave syrup or honey are better options.
- TRY ADDING SUPERGREENS to the mix. They may not all taste great but supergreen powders with spirulina, chlorella, alfalfa, spinach, seaweed and other “green” extracts can really make a difference to how you feel, and help offset the effects of radiotherapy (which is really radiation, let’s be blunt). Greens help alkalise the body and it has been proven that the closer we are to perfect alkaline levels, the more resistant we are to illness. Many say cancer cannot grow in a perfectly-balanced alkaline environment but shockingly, most of us run around being too acidic, due to eating too much wheat, cheese, because of stress, our often chaotic lifestyle but most of all the way we eat.
- DON’T FORGET THE MIND-BODY CONNECTION. Worry feeds illness, happiness and peace of mind boost health.
- EAT FOODS DESIGNED BY MOTHER NATURE (not transformed into something different on a supermarket shelf).
Try TERRANOVA’s Living Multinutrient Complex. Not only does it contain many supergreens, its star-studded cast of ingredients makes it our all-time favourite multivitamin. See the ingredients here:
http://www.terranova-nutrition.com/page11.htm and buy here:
http://www.victoriahealth.com/product/Living-Multinutrient-Complex/8803/0/
VIRIDIAN’s Gentle Adaptogen Complex – helps support health during periods of stress http://www.bodykind.com/product.aspx?page=product&previd=2429&productid=2430
PUKKA HERBS – Vitalise Bio-Nutrients (with curcumin, a known cancer-fighting spice) http://www.pukkaherbs.com/health-store/organic-bio-nutrients/vitalise.html

Simply Wigs – Christine Headwear Collection (95% bamboo, 5% spandex)
Simply Wigs aren’t simply wigs! They also sell extensions and…(applause please) Christine Headwear. If you’re fed up of faffing around with tying scarves you will love their range! They’re ultra-comfortable and breathable because of the natural bamboo fibres and the prices are reasonable, too. We raked around for hours looking for better scarf/headwear solutions and these are ahead of the game. Hats off to www.simplywigs.co.uk for their 360 degree views, too – for making buying easier.
(Above – Christine Headwear at Simply Wigs. This is Jazz – silk. Their 95% bamboo fibre range is similar and super soft, fitted to the head but with “ties” at the back so it’s less complicated than a scarf as it’s a “cap” but with ties at the back.)
Suburban Turban is run by milliner Nicky Zip, famous for her glamorous Ascot hats. Nicky’s come up with some clever solutions for hair loss, including these super light cotton organdie “Mila” sun hats. Lots more scarves, headwraps and clever cover-ups, the rest of range is here: www.suburbanturban.co.uk
Another great one is:
www.scarfhut.co.uk (founder Elaine passed away but it’s still going strong in her memory so please support it! Great choice.)
8. PERMANENT MAKE UP
The extraordinarily talented Karen Betts has literally redefined the standards of permanent make up. She’s now working with the Katie Piper Foundation www.karenbetts.com . And celebrity permanent make up artist Tracie Giles www.traciegiles.co.uk can also help with anything from permanent eyebrow make up to permanent make up breast repigmentation. She now has a brand new salon in Knightsbridge, London.
9. YOGA/MEDITATION (coming soon)
10. GOOD READS (coming soon)

Hi from Spiezia Organics – you mention in your post to get in touch if anyone has been forgotten
We’re a 100% Organic skin and body care company that have been hand-making products for 11 years in Cornwall.
Amanda, MD of Spiezia founded Made for Life back in 2008 and has worked with some of the organisations you mention in your list, namely Maggies Centres and Macmillan.
Made for Life runs pampering days for people with cancer, or supporting people with cancer. The days provide a change to meet with other people and share experiences and support, as well as receiving advice.
Most recently we’ve launched the brand new Made for Life 2012 calendar – a collection of stories and experiences from ladies who have been touched by cancer and involved with Made for Life.
Spiezia also offers Spa treatments – the Head in Heaven treatment is one of the treatments that is a suitable treatment for people with cancer to enjoy.
You can find out more information here:
http://www.madeforlife.org (you can also buy the 2012 calendar from here)
Miss October featured in the last Spiezia e-newsletter – you can read more here:

Thank you for such a great list and for including Dr. Alkaitis holistic organic skin food on it. Many people are not even aware that Dr. Alkaitis did cancer research for years and it was one of his motivators for creating his line…along with his absolute horror of ingredients was generally being used in make-up and skin care products. My question today is do you have any permanent make-up recommendations for people here in New York?
Keep up the great work and thanks again.
Great list. Also check out Marie Veronique Organics skincare line. All products are safe, organic and highly rated (1-3) by the EWG.org.
